Why even make movies?

Good movies can shape culture by reflecting it. "The Harder They Come" is Jamaica to me. Godard, Truffaut, and a smattering of others have defined what I know as French culture. "Mean Streets" is 1970s New York.

Good movies make people feel less alone. Especially strange ones. Strange people who have strange ideas feel alone in their ideas until they see similar ones reflected beautifully on screen. Wes Anderson? Werner Herzog?

Why else should people make movies? Other than entertainment?
